Exposing Deception Pt. 3: Zodiac Signs, Horoscopes, and Angel Numbers

I don’t know when I was introduced to my zodiac sign or when I first started reading horoscopes but I’ve been doing it since I was in elementary school. I at least know that much. When I was in a grocery store, I would grab a magazine and thumb straight to the horoscope section to see what it had to say about the sign that correlated my birthday.

I remember once that I compared the horoscopes between two different magazines and saw they were different. My little child’s brain knew something was up. Lately, I’ve been seeing so many things circulating where people are relying on the moon to predict things and talking about something being in retrograde, and all of this kind of stuff and God gave this episode, so here we are.

I want to start by talking about astrology in general. I’m starting here because this is where zodiac signs and horoscopes derive.

Astrology

The Holman Bible Dictionary defines astrologer because astrology and astrologers appear a few times in the Bible. From there I was able to discover that astrology is “dividing the heavens.” That’s what the Hebrew word for astrologer translates to. During Biblical times, the Babylonians developed these sophisticated methods for reading the stars. They would use the information they read from the stars to determine when to take action on certain things.

Webster’s Dictionary defines astrology as the divination of the supposed influences of the stars and planets on human affairs and terrestrial events by their positions and aspects

Webster’s definition uses the word divination which is already a red flag. Divination is the act of foretelling future events, or of revealing secret knowledge, by means of signs and omens or other supernatural agency.

The spirit of divination is what the Apostle Paul delivered the slave girl from when he was in Philippi. She was fortune telling and making a lot of money doing it. She was fortelling who Paul and Silas were and the reason she was able to do that is because she illegally accessed supernatural information from a demonic source. Anytime the source of supernatural information is not from God it is from a demonic spirit and they have accessed it illegally, which is why Paul had to stop and deal with that spirit.

Zodiac Signs

So where do zodiac signs come into play? Well, based on their observations and calculations, the Babylonians divided the sky—remember astrology is dividing the heavens—so they divided the heavens/sky into twelve different areas. Each area was assigned a figure, a name, and a specific meaning. This became the zodiac with its twelve zodiac signs. So these zodiac signs are a product of someone’s attempt to illegally access supernatural information.

Horoscopes

Horoscopes make use of the relative positions of planets and signs of the zodiac at a specific time, that time being a person’s birthday. Horoscopes are used by astrologers to aid them in inferring a person’s character and personality traits and in foretelling events of a person’s life. It’s an astrological forecast.

Said another way: a horoscope is used by an astrologer to provide information about the present and to predict events to come in the future. It’s basically a form of fortune telling.

This is a perversion of the gifts of word of knowledge and word of wisdom, which are gifts of the spirit that come from God. God gave us, through the Holy Spirit, the ability to receive supernatural revelation of facts about people, places, events or situations past, present, and future through gifts of the Holy Spirit. And He told us to earnestly desire these gifts! At Least that’s what my Bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:1.

The Bible and Astrology

Astrology comes up early in the Bible. One of the first places is when the Israelites were about to enter the promised land. So they are about to go into this foreign land that now belongs to them because God gave it to them and before they entered, God was like, and I’m paraphrasing here, but he was like, “wait, hold up. Come here. Lean in. Listen. When you go over there don’t be following the abominable, detestable, disgusting stuff they engage in like practice divination, tell fortunes, interpret omens, practice sorcery, cast spells, consult a medium or a spiritist, or inquire of the dead. Don’t do that, okay? Don’t do it. Why? Because everyone who does these acts is detestable to me and I’m driving out this nation of people because of these things.

God calls astrology an abominable practice. God thinks that astrology, horoscopes, and zodiac signs are disgusting, detestable, and wicked. That is what the Hebrew word for abomination translates to mean.

We see astrology brought up again when...

…God was pronouncing judgment on Babylon as its falling. Isaiah 47:13-15 says, “All the advice you receive has made you tired. Where are all your astrologers, those stargazers who make predictions each month? Let them stand up and save you from what the future holds. But they are like straw burning in a fire; they cannot save themselves from the flame. You will get no help from them at all; their hearth is no place to sit for warmth.”

Here’s an illustration of how that played out with King Nebuchadnezzar and his astrologers.

What should the sun, moon and stars be used for?

What is their purpose? We find out in Genesis chapter once starting at verse one what their purpose is. Here’s what it says:

“Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night. They will serve as signs for seasons[c] and for days and years. They will be lights in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth.” And it was so. God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule over the day and the lesser light to rule over the night—as well as the stars. God placed them in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth, to rule the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness.”

An argument can be made that the sun gives us vitamin D, but that isn’t completely accurate. Exposure to the sun prompts our bodies to produce vitamin D itself. The sun, moon, and stars were not given to us as some secret source of information about the future.

Angel Numbers

As best I can tell, angel numbers are repeating numbers and sequences. For example, if someone’s tag has the 5s in it and their bill total at a restaurant is $5.55, then 555 might be identified as an angel number for them.

These numbers are supposed to be used by spirit guides to either get a person’s attention, remind them of something important in their life or confirm something that someone has been curious about.

Sure, the Bible uses numbers like three, seven, and forty to represent specific things, but that does not mean that every number or sequence of numbers has some kind of hidden meaning.

And who are the “spirit guides” behind the angel numbers? Because I’ve seen  angels in the bible communicate messages from God, but have you ever seen anywhere in the Bible where an angel communicated by putting random numbers somewhere?

I personally think these numbers are an effective tool to deceive. I mean, after all, they are called angel numbers. Who would think that a demonic spirit is behind something that uses the word angel?

Spiritual Effects of Astrology and Angel Numbers

Society does a great job of desensitizing us to how serious dabbling in zodiac signs, horoscopes, and angel numbers actually is. This stuff can seem innocent but it’s serious. It violates the first commandment, which is “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Let’s break down how.

I want to start by defining the Hebrew word that our Bible translates to the word “before.” The Hebrew word in the original text is the word “al,” a- l. That word means “in addition to,” “beside,” “together with,” and “above.” So the scripture is saying, we shall have “no other gods in addition to God. We shall have no other gods together with, beside, or above our God.

Here’s how that relates to zodiac signs, astrology, and angel numbers. Whenever we go to something other than God for things that we are supposed to only seek from God, whatever source we go to we are actually making it our God. Believing in and following zodiac signs, horoscopes, and angel numbers is dabbling in the occult. Having another god includes every form of occult practice.

Here's what that means:

If we go to horoscopes for information about the future which God has told us that we shouldn’t receive information through that illegal channel, then we are making the power behind that source our God. And the source behind zodiac signs, horoscopes, and angel numbers is the enemy because it all uses divination.

This is idolatry. Scripture tells us that idolaters will not inherit the kingdom of God. So we gotta stop.

Now, how can God trust us with revealing our purpose to us when the source of our revelation is the devil by way of horoscopes?
